I arrived at the family’s home on a calm, beautiful morning. The light was soft and diffused—ideal for those gentle, natural newborn portraits I love to create. Waiting for me was a perfect week-old newborn, nestled contentedly with his loving family surrounding him.
Mama was glowing. She looked so rested, awake, and radiant—like the absolute rockstar she is after bringing new life into the world. Seeing her confidence and joy made the entire session even more special. These in-home newborn sessions let families stay in their own comfortable space, which helps everyone (especially tired parents!) relax and be themselves.
One of my favorite moments was watching big brother gently cradle his tiny new sibling in his arms. The way he looked down at his little brother with such pure love and protectiveness melted my heart. These sibling connections are pure gold in newborn photography... they tell the story of your growing family in the most authentic way.
In-home newborn photography allows me to capture these intimate, real-life moments exactly as they unfold: soft morning light streaming through the windows, cozy family cuddles on the couch, and those sleepy newborn stretches that only happen in the comfort of home.
Why the Best Time for Newborn Photos Is Around One Week Old
Did you know the sweet spot for newborn photography is when your baby is about 5–10 days old? Here’s why:
- Sleepy and settled: At around one week, newborns are still in that deep, floppy newborn phase. They sleep soundly, curl into those classic poses easily, and are less fussy.
- Healing for mom: By this point, most mamas are starting to feel a bit more rested and ready to be in photos (just like this incredible mom!).
- Natural flexibility: Those little joints are still super malleable, making those classic curled-up, froggy, and swaddled poses easier and safer.
- Family bonding: Older siblings are adjusting but still in full “new baby wonder” mode.
Whether you’re in Anchorage, Alaska with those soft northern light mornings or in the beautiful Pacific Northwest of Washington state, scheduling your in-home newborn session for that magical one-week window creates timeless images you’ll treasure forever.
